Prohibition Ends in Ephraim

Harvey Malzahn, Sr., proprietor of Peninsula Pub (1933)

In the old days, the strongest beverage you could get in Ephraim was a cup of coffee. The "old days" ended this past April when Ephraim residents voted to allow the sale of beer and wine in their community. Ephraim prohibited the sale of alcohol for so long, 163 years in fact, that the ban became part of its identity. Believed to be the last dry community in the state of Wisconsin, Ephraim is home to several restaurants who stand to immediately benefit from this historic vote. In this charming lakeside village, meals and sunsets will no longer beg to be paired with a glass of wine or beer.
