The Door County Humane Society is smack dab in the middle of the Michelson Found Animals Saving Pets Challenge. This month-long fundraising competition consists of hundreds of animal welfare organizations across the nation all competing to see who can raise the most money for their cause in 30 days. The fundraising event kicked off on Tuesday, May 2nd and runs through June 1st. This is the third year that DCHS is competing in the Saving Pets Challenge. Last year the organization placed fourth in the nation and raised over $100,000 for our animals. Currently, the organization is in second place and has raised $49,000.
DCHS is only one of four organizations representing the state of Wisconsin in this competition. “It is phenomenal to be second in the nation and representing our state, stated Communications and Development Coordinator April Delfosse. She went on to say “our competition is fierce. We are up against larger shelters that have a much bigger demographic then us and yet we are holding our own.”
Each week of the Saving Pets Challenge has a mini challenge to encourage supporters to donate to their animal group. During this third week of competition (May 16th -May 23rd), the two organizations that raise the most money online will play Rock Paper Scissors. The winning organization gets $5,000 and the organization that doesn't win gets $2,000.
“This competition is not yet over,” explained Delfosse. “We have two weeks to go and in many ways these two week are the most important. It is essential that we continue to receive donations to hold our standing in second place in order to be a part of this week’s mini challenge. Also it is critical to keep our positioning because when the Challenge ends on June 1st the organizations in the top five places also receive additional bonus money. First place receives a $50,000 bonus prize. That would be life changing for DCHS. So, thank you so much to everyone who donated, and if you have not yet done so, please consider making a gift. Also please ask your friends, family, neighbors, coworkers and others to make a donation!”To donate simply go to www.doorcountyhumanesociety.org and click the red square button that says DONATE, found on the right hand side of the screen. Please remember that all donations must be given online in order for them to count to DCHS’s grand total. To follow the organization’s progress and ranking go to www.crowdrise.com/savingpetschallenge.
