Specialty Hikes Round Out The Ridges December Schedule

BAILEYS HARBOR, WI (December 11, 2015) – Winter officially begins on December 21, but so far you wouldn’t know it from the weather! Get out while the getting’s good, and enjoy the lingering mild temperatures and fall beauty of the Door Peninsula.

Join a Ridges naturalist on December 19 at 10am for a guided hike through the open fields and hardwood forest of Appel’s Bluff. This newly acquired 67-acre tract features dense lowland cedar forest with ephemeral ponds and wetlands in the southern portion and upland forests of maple and birch in the middle. The area’s diversity provides opportunities to see a variety of habitats during a moderately easy hike. Fees are $5 for Ridges members and $8 for the general public. Children under 18 hike free. Meet at the Cook-Fuller Nature Center, 8166 Hwy 57 in Baileys Harbor.

Explore the hardwood forest of Logan Creek with a seasoned guide at 1 PM on December 19. Owned and managed by The Ridges, this 170-acre parcel is comprised of a variety of habitats and features frontage along both Clark Lake and Logan Creek. Bring binoculars and meet at the Logan Creek trailhead, 5724 Loritz Road. Hikes are $5 for Ridges members and $8 for the general public. Children under 18 hike free.
