STURGEON BAY, WI (January 6, 2016) – The Door County Humane Society is making two substantial changes to its organization to better serve the Door County community and to increase the number of adoptions taking place at DCHS. Starting January 1, 2016, DCHS has changed the visiting and adoption hours that they are open to the public.
“Being open until later in the day provides more people with the opportunity to visit us and our many animals after they are done with work. A majority of Wisconsin shelters have hours similar to the ones that we are putting into place at the start of the New Year. We hope that expanding our hours means more individuals from the community come through our doors and adopt,” stated DCHS Director Carol Boudreau.
DCHS recognized a permanent change was needed when we temporarily expanded our hours during the Clear the Shelter Adoption Event that took place in October. During the event, open hours were extended and multiple adopters stated that the later hours were more convenient and greatly appreciated.
DCHS will now be open during the following hours:
Monday – 12 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Tuesday - CLOSED
Wednesday – 12 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Thursday - CLOSED
Friday – 12 p.m. - 6 p.m.
Saturday – 12 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Sunday – CLOSED
The second change taking place at DCHS is the new pricing structure for cat and kitten adoption fees. The community responded positively to our two fee waived adoption events this year. We believe this is evidence of the need to change our pricing structure.
Our ultimate goal is to increase adoptions and this change will help in particular for our older, harder to adopt cats. This new pricing structure has been successful for other humane societies. Previously all cats and kittens were $90.
Starting January 1, 2016, the new prices will be as follows:
Kittens - 5 months and under: $90
Adult Cats - 6 months to 8 years: $45
Senior Cats - 9 years and older: Fees are waived
Bonded Adult Pairs: $50 (two cats that are dependent on one another)
