We can all admit that life often feels incredibly, maddeningly busy, therefore making time for oneself a challenging proposition. Why is it our intention to take good care of ourselves is the topic of New Year resolutions, on the to-do list, and part of our conversations, yet taking that time or making that appointment or signing up for that class tends to go on the back burner?
What is the disconnect between knowing that we need to take good care of ourselves and then choosing not to do it? We struggle with this and yet for anyone who has been under the weather, we know that good health is everything. So what do we do?
If you're on vacation you've already made yourself a priority. This is the perfect time to increase your self-care and put yourself on the front burner. Start by finding a quiet place in one of the many beautiful settings, turn off your cellphone and just sit and breathe. Sounds simple, yet we have become so plugged-in we’re not even aware of how addicted we are to connections.
Next, take a gentle walk and stop to stretch now and again. Notice things in nature that delight you. Solitude is so important to finding the soul. As Wayne Dyer, the spiritual philosopher, said, “Make peace with silence, and remind yourself that it is in this space that you’ll come to remember your spirit.”
Take your self-care even further by scheduling a massage, manicure, pedicure or sauna. Once the ball is rolling why not take a yoga or meditation class? Door County is an incredibly healing place with many opportunities to find wellness, and really, your self, again.
