SISTER BAY, WI (May 27, 2016) — The Sister Bay Advancement Association is pleased to announce that Saturday, June 11th is the date for northern Door County's most-anticipated event for goat-lovers, the 4th Annual Roofing of the Goats Parade on Hwy 42 in downtown Sister Bay. The annual Goat Parade at 10:30am is a very homespun event that combines goats, Door County visitors, good spirits and general high jinks with what the organizers hope will be beautiful weather.

This year's Goat Parade will be followed by Al Johnson's 2nd Annual Goat Fest, located on the green space next to the restaurant at 10698 N. Bay Shore Drive. Goat Fest will feature live music by the Chicago-based band Cardinal Harbor, fun kids' games, various beverages (alcoholic and otherwise), Meatballs & Mashed Potatoes In A Cup, and a Swedish Pancake Eating Contest. Attendees who wear a dirndl or other authentic folk attire to Goat Fest will be offered their choice of a free beverage. Other downtown Sister Bay businesses — including Husby's, Door County Creamery and Sister Bay Bowl — are planning to offer their own festivities and specials.

This year's parade participants include goats and goat herders from Door County Creamery, Chrissy Bergwin of Northern Door Pet Clinic, Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant & Butik, and possibly other local goat-friendly businesses. At the end of the parade, Al Johnson's goats are led up onto the business's green sod roof, inaugurating yet another season of goat-watching in northern Door County. Al's goats can then be viewed all season on the online Goat Cam: www.aljohnsons.com/goat-cam.

Husby's Food & Spirits and other Sister Bay businesses will soon begin selling "goat drop stickers" for $10 each as a fundraiser for Koinonia Kupboard, a food pantry managed and supported by First Baptist Church of Sister Bay. If a goat poops on your sticker during the parade, you could win a beautiful TREK Elektra Cruiser "Fat Tire" bike, among many other prizes. The drawing for prizes will happen immediately after the parade, on the Goat Fest Stage. Koinonia Kupboard will also be collecting food donations in the green space next to Al Johnson's, where Goat Fest will be located.

The parade will line up on the green space at the corner of Mill Road and Hwy. 42 (just north of the Sister Bay Bowl in downtown Sister Bay) and proceed north on Hwy 42 towards Al Johnson's. Creative goat and goat-herding endeavors are being encouraged, including the wearing of goat costumes, goatees, Viking helmets (as in horns and braids), and funky folk costumes.

Note to parade-watchers: please don't bring your otherwise-friendly pooch to the Goat Parade; goats are generally terrified of dogs! (Thank you.) All Door County goats are invited to participate in this parade, but goats must be on a leash or harness and be accompanied by an experienced goat-wrangler.

The Goat Parade will finish with the 'Roofing of the Goats' onto the sod roof at Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant at about 11 am and Goat Fest and other downtown Sister Bay festivities will continue throughout the afternoon.
