SISTER BAY, WI (June 9, 2016) – The Village of Sister Bay has undergone a dramatic transformation and can’t wait to show it off and kick-start summer with a community-wide celebration on Saturday, June 25. Four events on one day and all at Waterfront Park! Experience Paddlefest, the first annual co-ed volleyball tournament, music at the Waterfront Park Performance Pavilion, and fireworks over the bay.
Sister Bay has plenty to celebrate this summer. The Hwy 42/Bay Shore Drive reconstruction and a multi-year effort and investment of $18 million in major public works are complete. The result is new LED street lighting, buried power lines, widened sidewalks and a multi-purpose bike lane to name just a few. Sister Bay’s entire downtown district is now a window to the water. Sister Bay’s waterfront has the largest expanse of publicly accessible shoreline of any town in Door County and with 600’ of sandy shore, dimension stone seating and a repurposed brick paver sidewalk for strolling, the Sister Bay Beach project represents the largest of its kind in Door County.
To mark the completion of the road reconstruction and other public works, a ribbon cutting ceremony with state and local dignitaries is scheduled to begin at 11:30am at the corner of Mill Road and Bay Shore Drive (Hwy 42).
From 9am – 1pm everyone from old pros to the curious have the chance to check out the latest kayaks and stand-up paddleboards at Paddlefest at the Sister Bay Beach. Discover your inner-athlete and start your morning with SUP Yoga, SUP lessons or kayak and SUP tryouts. Sign up early for SUP Yoga with a certified Yoga instructor as space is limited. Experienced staff from Bay Shore Outfitters will be on the shore and in the water to ensure your safety and enjoyment.
Sign up a team or watch the double elimination co-ed volleyball tournament. Play begins at 10am. Entry fee is $100 per team with a portion of the proceeds going to benefit Gibraltar Volleyball.
Live music at the Waterfront Performance Pavilion by Hoi Polloi begins at 6 p.m. Hoi Polloi brings global beats and summer sounds with a little reggae and soul influence all set against the back drop of the waterfront and the anticipation of a spectacular Sister Bay sunset.
At 9:15 fireworks over the bay by Spielbauer (Wisconsin’s oldest exhibition fireworks company) cap off Sister Bay’s community summer celebration.
