FISH CREEK, WI (June 16, 2016) – On Wednesday, June 29, Door Community Auditorium (DCA) will present an evening of high-energy roots music from virtuoso mandolinist Sierra Hull and old-time Minnesota-based band Pert Near Sandstone.
Since age 11, Sierra Hull has been recognized as an expert mandolin player, astonishing audiences and fellow musicians alike. In her young career, Hull has performed at the White House, Carnegie Hall, and the Kennedy Center and collaborated with musicians like Alison Krauss and Béla Fleck. Now a seasoned touring musician in her mid-twenties, Hull is performing her most inspired and accomplished work to date.
Fellow bluegrass fiddler Alison Krauss says of Hull, “I think she’s endless. I don’t see any boundaries. Talent like hers is so rare, and I don’t think it stops.”
Sharing the stage with Hull will be Pert Near Sandstone, a Minnesota-based string band that rejuvenates American string music with its raw, youthful energy. In addition to being stewards of old-time and bluegrass traditions, Pert Near Sandstone also plays tightly crafted original roots material, winning over critics and fans across the country.
The Barn Presents writes, “Pert Near Sandstone understand the traditions of the bluegrass genre — they channel old-time bluegrass traditions into a record both modern and timeless…. The songwriting delivers, offering unique and soulful songs that don’t often lean on bluegrass clichés, or any clichés, for that matter.
The June 29 concert is made possible with support from major sponsors, Blacksmith Inn on the Shore, and supporting sponsors, Wisconsin Public Radio.
Sierra Hull and Pert Near Sandstone will perform at DCA at 8pm on Wednesday, June 29. Tickets for the concert range from $28 to $48.
