FISH CREEK, WI (July 7, 2016) – On Wednesday, July 13, at 8pm, Door Community Auditorium (DCA) will host banjo player Béla Fleck and mandolinist/composer/vocalist Chris Thile, who will join forces for a must-see double-bill performance.
Béla Fleck is a powerfully creative force in bluegrass, jazz, pop, and classical music who has single-handedly redefined American banjo music. The recipient of multiple Grammys going back to 1998, Fleck has been nominated for Grammys in more musical categories than anyone in the award’s history. Often considered the premier banjo player in the world, Fleck is a New York City native (named after composer Béla Bartok) who picked up the banjo at age 15 after being awed by the bluegrass playing of Flatt & Scruggs.
Jazz pianist Chick Corea says, “Béla is a continuous fountain of creativity.”
A child prodigy, Chris Thile rose to fame with acoustic trio Nickel Creek and later joined the progressive acoustic group Punch Brothers. With his broad musical outlook, which encompasses classical, rock, jazz, and bluegrass, this MacArthur Fellowship recipient transcends the borders of conventional genres, creating a distinctly American canon and a new musical aesthetic. Upon Garrison Keillor’s retirement later this year, Thile will become the new host of A Prairie Home Companion.
The London Independent calls Thile “the most remarkable mandolinist in the world.”
Fleck and Thile’s concert is made possible with support from major sponsor Tapuat Kombucha and from supporting sponsors The Cookery, McKeefry & Yeomans, and Wisconsin Public Radio.
Béla Fleck and Chris Thile will perform at DCA at 8pm on Wednesday, July 13. Tickets for the concert range from $49 to $79. Advance reservations are recommended and can be made through the DCA box office, located at 3926 Highway 42 in Fish Creek. The box office is open Monday-Friday, 12-5pm.
