STURGEON BAY, WI (July 12, 2016) – Learn about the History of Door County Theater from two of our oldest acts – Northern Sky Theater and Peninsula Players at the Door County Historical Society’s presentation on Sunday, July 17 at 2:00 in the Collins Learning Center. Peninsula Players’ Business Manager Audra Baakari Boyle and Northern Sky Theater’s Director of Development and Public Relations Holly Feldman will create a duet of stories about these two beloved and long-standing community performing art organizations.

Northern Sky Theater traces its history to the Wisconsin Idea Theatre, founded in the 1940’s by historian Robert Gard to preserve and promote regional lore and literature in performance venues across the state. One of his protégés, Professor David Peterson of UW-Extension, created a troupe called the Heritage Ensemble in 1970 to present our state’s folksongs and tales in musical revues at Peninsula State Park. Ever since the company emerged from the Heritage Ensemble, its growth and development have been phenomenal. Northern Sky Theater is a performing arts organization unique both in our state and in the nation. It has created a body of theatrical work about Wisconsin unparalleled by any other troupe, while simultaneously advancing the craft of the American musical. Come learn how Northern Sky can trace its roots all the way back to our first American Playwright, Eugene O’Neil.

Peninsula Players Theatre was founded in 1935 in Fish Creek by brother and sister Richard and Caroline Fisher. Today, 81 years later, their dream of a professional live theater in Door County is thriving at the Players shoreline location. Audra serves as the Peninsula Players historian, archivist and keeper of oral backstage stories. She will share images from the Players archives as well as stories and tidbits of those who tread the boards learning the craft at Door County professional's summer stock.

Though Holly Feldman has been involved with Northern Sky for more than 13 years in various behind-the-scenes roles, she was pleased to recently step into her newest position as Director of Development and Public Relations. Holly grew up camping in Peninsula State Park and has since added her own three children to the newest generation of fans. In addition to her behind-the-scene contributions, Holly has been seen singing on stage with Katie Dahl, Doc Heide, Jeffrey Herbst, Jimmy Kaplan, Eric Lewis, Chad Luberger and Karen Mal.

Audra Baakari Boyle, the Peninsula Players Business Manager, has been a company member of America's Oldest Professional Resident Summer Theatre since 1991. She has served as the Box Office Manager, Treasurer and
several seasons as Public Relations Director before being appointed Business Manager. She earned a BFA degree in technical theater and an MA in theater history and public relations from the University of Wisconsin-Superior.

The program will be held on Sunday, July 17, at 2:00 pm in the Collins Center, at 2041 Michigan Street in Sturgeon Bay, adjacent to the Society’s Heritage Village.
