EGG HARBOR, WI (July 14, 2016) – Birch Creek’s Jazz Students will perform free “outreach concerts” at the Sister Bay Pavilion, across from Al Johnson’s, on July 27th and August 10th from 3:00-5:00 pm.
The concerts will feature students performing jazz numbers in a big band setup, similar to what would be heard during a paid concert at Birch Creek. The student big bands this summer will be directed by Phil Crews and Gil Wukitsch during the Jazz I session, and Steve Sveum and Jim Stombres during the Jazz II session. The free outreach concerts will also feature performances from the Birch Creek Jazz Ambassadors, an audition-based jazz combo comprised of advanced student musicians.
Birch Creek’s Outreach program was initiated to reach out to the community and provide an opportunity for people to hear what’s going on at Birch Creek in a free concert setting. Many who hear the outreach concerts go on to attend paid performances at Birch Creek, where both students and their nationally-recognized faculty perform in the century-old Dutton Concert Barn. Jazz concerts at Birch Creek will be held Wednesday-Saturday every week from July 20-August 13. Tickets may be ordered online at birchcreek.org/tickets.
Birch Creek Music Performance Center in Egg Harbor, WI, is a residential summer music academy for advanced young musicians. With a performance emphasis, students are taught by nationally known performers and educators during the day, and perform alongside them in concerts at night. Four sessions focus on Percussion & Steel Band, Symphony, and Big Band Jazz. 2016 concert and session dates are posted at www.birchcreek.org/tickets.
