Talk of the Town played to a sold out house in 2015 at Birch Creek’s Juniper Hall, and the group will return this year on September 3 for a concert in the Dutton Concert Barn, a larger venue at Birch Creek. The group, from the Green Bay area, has performed nationally with artists like Pete Fountain, Bob Hope, the Green Bay Packer Band, and in New Orleans on Bourbon Street. Talk of the Town performs many jazz and swing standards with an authentic flavor, nodding to great artists such as Pete Fountain, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and Count Basie. The concert will take place at 7:30 pm. Kevin Van Ess, the leader of the band, is excited to return to Birch Creek.
“Playing at Birch Creek last year was a great time with a great audience,” Kevin said. “We’re going to bring New Orleans back up to Birch Creek this year, and we also plan to tribute our performance to the late and great Pete Fountain.”
The Fall Concert Series will feature more artists throughout the season, including the MC Swingtet on August 27, Howard Levy on September 17, Janet Planet on October 1, and a holiday-themed concert with brass and percussion players from Birch Creek’s faculty on December 3. In addition to these fall events, the Annual Fall Fundraiser Dinner and Concert will take place on October 22, featuring the Pangelic Duo with Liam Teague on steel pan and Faye Seeman on harp. All Fall Concert Series events will fund scholarships for Birch Creek students.
