Microchipping is a very easy, quick and relatively painless procedure. A small chip the size of a grain of rice is inserted between the shoulder blades of an animal. This chip can then be read by scanners that are nationally used at all vet clinics, recuses and shelters. Once the chip is recognized by the scanner all information on the chip can be retrieved to connect the animal with it’s owner.
“Microchipping is an inexpensive way to ensure a better chance of being reunited with your pet if he/she should ever run away or get lost. It is also important to make sure that if your animal is already microchipped that your current contact information is kept up to date in the data base. So please if you have not already done so get your animal microchipped and take advantage of this amazing opportunity,” states DCHS Communications and Development Coordinator April Delfosse.
