On Saturday, November 26, Door Community Auditorium (DCA) will host a high-energy, festive Christmas concert by legendary a cappella band Rockapella.
Since the early ’90s when they first achieved national television fame on PBS’s “Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?,” a cappella icons Rockapella have provided a funky, powerful soundtrack to several generations of vocal music fans, touring the globe and keeping their music fresh along the way.
The New York Times calls an evening of Rockapella music “an evening of pure entertainment.”
With buckets of catchy original pop songs, as well as complete contemporary revisions of sparkling Motown, pop, and soul classics, this five-man ensemble can create the sound of a full band using only the versatility of their voices. As USA Today proclaimed: “The best musical instrument of all is the human voice – if you’ve seen Rockapella you know that’s the truth.
The current Rockapella line-up features Scott Leonard (since 1991, high tenor), Jeff Thacher (since 1993, vocal percussionist), Calvin Jones (since 2013, tenor), and newcomers Mitchell Rains (tenor), and Bryant Vance (bass). “People have a hard time believing it’s just us making all of that music,” says Leonard. “It’s still those same elements that make modern band music: percussion, bass, melody and harmonies.”
Rockapella’s concert is made possible with support from major sponsor Main Street Market, supporting sponsors The Cordon Family Foundation and Wisconsin Public Radio, and passport program partners Friends of Gibraltar, RocketDSD.com/IceCreamSource.com, and Grasse’s Grill.
Rockapella will perform at DCA at 7pm on Saturday, November 26. Tickets for the concert range from $28 to $55, with a limited number of $10 tickets available for students. Advance reservations are recommended and can be made through the DCA box office, located at 3926 Highway 42 in Fish Creek. The box office is open Monday-Friday, 12-5pm.
