Write On, Door County is partnering with the Door County Maritime Museum to present Great Lakes/ Great Books, a monthly book club featuring books with a Great Lakes focus.
Books of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry that have the Great Lakes as subject matter or as settings will be discussed with a facilitator from Write On. A complete list of titles will be available at the first meeting Thursday, November 3rd, at 10:30am at the Door County Maritime Museum in Sturgeon Bay. This way interest in particular titles can be gauged. If everyone wants to read nonfiction, for instance, the book list can be adjusted.
The group will continue to meet at 10:30am the first Thursday of each month at the museum. Those dates are December 1, January 5, February 2, March 2, April 6, and May 4.
The following is a proposed book list that is subject to change:
November: Death in Cold Water: A Dave Cubiak Door County Mystery by Patricia Skalka
December: The Windward Shore: A Winter on the Great Lakes by Jerry Dennis
January: Ashes Under Water: The SS Eastland and the Shipwreck that Shook America by Michael McCarthy
February: The Bone House by Brian Freeman
March: Ship Captain’s Daughter: Growing up on the Great Lakes by Ann Michler Lewis
April: Water Music: The Great Lakes State Poetry Anthology Published by the Poetry Society of Michigan
