Loaves and Fishes of Door County, Inc. is pleased to announce that it has been recognized by the IRS as 501(c)(3) public charity. This fully independent corporation receives support from local churches, community groups, and is administered by the Door County Community Foundation.
Originally launched as a social outreach program of a single church, Loaves and Fishes of Door County, Inc. is a community-based program which provides hot meals to hungry families. Volunteers, led by a professional chef, cook and serve delicious meals to our neighbors that are struggling to make ends meet. Over 40,000 meals have been served since the program began in 2003.
“Loaves and Fishes of Door County is so much more than meal service,” said Anita Karwowski, Director of Loaves and Fishes of Door County, Inc. “All of our volunteers treat everyone that comes in with respect. Our guests come not only for the meal, but also for companionship. We treat them like family. We are family.”
“We at the Community Foundation are honored to administering the new Loaves and Fishes of Door County Inc.,” said Bret Bicoy, President and
CEO of the Door County Community Foundation. “As enthusiastic supporters of ecumenism, we are pleased to see people of all faiths join together as a single community to serve our less fortunate brothers and sisters.”
Meals are served on the 1st, 3rd, and 4th Fridays of the month in the commons area of the NWTC campus in Sturgeon Bay. NWTC generously donates the space and use of its kitchen, and more than 6,000 hours of donated labor help to make Loaves and Fishes a successful program.
