Space, the not-so-serious home and gift shop, will celebrate its grand opening on Thursday, May 25 in Sister Bay. Enjoy refreshments, treats and raffles while you shop the renovated building. Shoppers will receive 15% off their entire purchase at Space as well as its sister store, Spot.
Upstairs from Space, Spot begins its fifth year in business in downtown Sister Bay. What started as a women’s retail store slowly incorporated more gifts, greeting cards and onesies. The overwhelming popularity of Spot’s gift items made Space a welcomed addition.
Space’s price point is affordable, starting at $5. Anyone with a sense of humor will love Space’s home accents, shower gifts and Door County souvenirs. You’ll find yourself laughing out loud at greeting cards, coffee table books and quirky kids stuff. In addition, shoppers will find an eclectic mix of glassware, candles, games, kitchenware and much more.
The sister stores of Spot and Space are located at 10647 North Bay Shore Drive and occupy a building that dates back to 1913 and was once a hardware store. Owner Jennie Bexell has kept as much of the original building as possible, which can be seen in Space’s beautifully restored log ceiling.
While Spot is the original shop that added a pop of color to the retail scene in Sister Bay, Bexell hopes both her stores will be a beacon of positivity and fun for the village. She wants her customers to feel good and to laugh. She credits the growth of her business to friends, family, community and customers who have supported her and inspired her to do more.
Bexell grew up in Österbymo, Sweden and began traveling to America to work summers in Door County over 20 years ago. She became a full-time resident nine years ago and lives in Sister Bay.
Following its grand opening, Space will be open daily 10:00am-7:00pm.
