What was your childhood in the Soviet Union like?
I only remember being loved by my parents, but having pillow fights with my brother.
What experience(s) first drew you to a love of music?
Both my parents played piano, so I hardly had a day without hearing music!
What instrument(s) do you play and why?
My instrument is violin. I ended up with it, because I asked Mom to buy it for my seventh birthday.
How did you come to emigrate to the United States?
My youngest brother immigrated six months before me, so in a way I followed him.
(A three part video series on Victor’s journey to America can be viewed on the Peninsula Music Festival’s YouTube station.)
Why have you stayed with PMF for 30 years?
Peninsula Music Festival is the next best thing after white bread, so I am honored to be its Music Director.
What do you like/love about Door County?
I love the people even more than the natural beauty of the land. I love the culture, art, music and genuine friendliness of Door County residents.
What do you hope your legacy at PMF will be?
I never had a minute to think about my legacy! Studying my music scores takes most of my time.
