If the ghosts of soul divas were smoking and playing poker\, their cackling laughter would sound like Ruby James—timeless spirit\, modern heart. The Austin American-Statesman wrote\, “Ruby James makes heartbreak sound so good\, it hurts.” \nDavina & The Vagabonds have created a stir on the national music scene with their high-energy live shows\, level A musicianship\, sharp-dressed professionalism\, and Davina Sowers’s commanding stage presence. With influences ranging from the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Fats Domino to Aretha Franklin and Tom Waits\, Davina and her compatriots spurn era\, expectation\, and classification.
