DESCRIPTION:Pollinator Week is an international celebration\, promoting the valuable ecosystem services provided by bees\, birds\, butterflies\, bats\, beetles\, moths\, wasps\, and flies. About 75% of all flowering plant species need animal pollinators for reproduction. As a result\, pollinators contribute to ecosystem health and a sustainable food supply. Celebrate them this #pollinatorweek! \nTuesday\, June 20th – Monarch Monitoring Project 10 am – 12 pm \nSpend some time with the park naturalist as she explains all aspects of monitoring a monarch waystation for the Monarch Larva Monitoring Project. This citizen science program can easily be done right in your own yard. Take home some milkweed seeds for planting. Meet at The Nature Center. Lot 1. \nThursday\, June 22nd – Planting For and Protecting Pollinators – 10 – 11:30 am. \nIt’s a time to celebrate pollinators and spread the word about what we can do to protect them. Learn about the pollinator gardens at Newport\, along with ideas for habitat at your own house. Construct an insect hotel to take home with you. Meet at the Nature Center. Lot 1. \nFriday\, June 23rd – “Insects Bug Me” a Presentation by Charlotte Lukes – 10 am \nJoin Charlotte during Pollinator Week as she presents a PowerPoint presentation about many of our pollinator friends.
