Write On\, Door County poet is Stephanie Trenchard.\n\nWhen Brahms wrote his second string quintet\, he thought it was a perfect way to end his career (he later was coaxed into creating a few more by a wonderful clarinetist). It is powerful\, charming\, intense\, light-hearted\, and – especially in its Hungarian flavored finale – exuberant. When someone suggested that the famous Prater in Vienna\, a favorite amusement park of Brahms\, might have inspired the effervescent nature of this work\, Brahms replied\, “Yes\, and the delightful girls there\, too.” Bruch’s masterpiece is also a late work not published until after his death. This composer of the famous Scottish Fantasy and Violin Concerto excels once again in this deeply felt companion piece to the Brahms. SUMMARY:Stargazing at the Dark Sky Park
DESCRIPTION:August 4th or 5th – Stargazing at the Dark Sky Park (whichever night has the best viewing conditions) – 9 pm  \nJoin us at Wisconsin’s only designated dark sky park for a night of star gazing. There will be telescopes and other equipment set up with some of Door County’s best amateur astronomers on hand to point out some highlights of the night sky. All are welcome to bring their own telescopes or binoculars. Flashlights or headlamps with red lens cover is recommended. It is always a good idea to come during daytime hours to familiarize yourself with the area first. As conditions are unpredictable\, the date for this program will be decided as weather conditions are assessed. Check with the park office\, or the Facebook page (Newport Wilderness Society) for updates. This program will be cancelled if viewing conditions are poor.  There is no seating available\, so bring your own chair or blanket.
