DESCRIPTION:The excitement is building at The Red Putter Mini Golf in North Ephraim as The Red Putter Pro Tournament approaches!  Many pros are now busy practicing\, while others try to earn that pro status and secure a spot for the Pro Tournament to be held on Saturday\, August 1st. This is the 24th year for this annual tournament\, which will feature many returning pro players\, but many new golfers are participating this year as well.  In 2025\, Danny Monchamp beat out 87 other golfers with a three-round total score of 104! \nGolfers may enter The Red Putter Pro Tournament for a fee of $30\, and must pre-qualify with a score under par on the course. Registered players receive free practice the week of the tournament. \nSign in begins at 8am Saturday morning\, with tournament play beginning at 9am.  Three rounds of golf are played\, followed by a delicious lunch by Klaud’s Kitchen.

SUMMARY:Stas Venglevski and Misha Litvin at Fishstock
DESCRIPTION:Stas Vanlevski and Misha Litvin are both musically stunning and have a wonderful stage presence and incredible rapport with the audience. Their music ranges from classical\, to folk\, to traditional. Stas plays the Bayan\, a Russion version of the accordion. He has toured extensively as a soloist throughout the former Soviet Union\, Canada\, Europe\, and the United States including numerous performances with Doc Severinsen\, Steve Allen\, and with Garrison Keillor on the Prairie Home Companion show. Additionally\, Stas has performed with symphony orchestras throughout the US. Misha is a master mandolinist and a master of the Domra (a Russian mandolin). He has soloed with chamber orchestras in Russa\, Italy\, Germany\, The Netherlands\, France\, and the US. Misha is a professor of mandolin at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. He is originally from Minsk\, Belarus and holds a masters degree in orchestra conducting and music education.

DESCRIPTION:DOOR COUNTY\, WI\, August 6\, 2026 – In celebration of Women’s Equality Day\, the League of Women Voters of Door County (LWVDC) will host its annual car parade on Wednesday\, August 26\, this time turning the streets of Egg Harbor into a rolling call to protect voting rights and defend democracy. \n  \nBeginning at 4:30 p.m.\, vehicles may line up in the parking lane on Church Street in Egg Harbor. The car parade launches at 5 p.m. Following an escort car\, the procession will proceed down Church Street\, right on Harbor School Road\, right on Hwy 42\, right on Church Street\, and then will repeat the loop. \n  \nA free community gathering follows at 5:30 p.m. at the Kress Pavillion\, featuring live music\, speakers\, and a shared purpose of protecting and defending voting rights and democracy. This year’s program includes remarks by former Wisconsin Lt. Governor Barbara Lawton and a live music performance by Cathy Grier + the Woman Troublemakers. There will also be prizes for the best decorated vehicles. \n  \nStarting at 6:30 p.m.\, LWVDC will present a free showing of the Tony Award-winning musical “Suffs\,” which tells the story of the American suffragist movement and its trailblazing leaders\, in the Kress Great Hall. SUMMARY:Opening Reception for Stories + Senses: Reflections in Nature
DESCRIPTION:Ephraim\, WI\, August 6th\, The Hardy Gallery is pleased to announce the final exhibit of the 2026 season\, Stories + Senses: Reflections in Nature. Join us for the Opening Reception on Friday\, August 28th\, 5:30–7pm to view work from three artists all working in our region: Mary Ellen Sisulak (Ellison Bay)\, Naomi Moes-Jenkins (Egg Harbor/De Pere)\, and Marilyn Prescott (Appleton). These artists are all engaged in a process of translating what they see in their immediate environments. The surfaces of Prescott’s abstract paintings are rich with references to her walks along the Fox River. They are paintings that reward slow\, close viewing. The materiality of many of Moes-Jenkins’ sculptures seem to be pulled right out of Prescott’s paintings and create a sense of entering into a world of mythology. Sisulak’s work\, created from materials ranging from leather to water-soluble encaustic\, fills the viewer with the sense of magic and mystery present when you spend time deep in the forest. Hear from the artists at the Artist Panel Discussion on September 9th\, 6-7pm. The exhibit is on view August 18th–October 11th.

SUMMARY:Coffee Talk with Elmer Lewis: The Physics of Music – Without the Equations
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wondered why lower pitched instruments are larger than those that are higher pitched? Why ten violins are not twice as loud as five? And\, why do several sound different – not just louder – than one? Other questions we’ll explore will include why wind instruments are louder and sound different than strings and why it matters in which key music is written? \nTo address such questions\, we’ll use simple diagrams and graphs to show how sound wave amplitude\, wavelength\, and overtones determine how musical instruments work and how the brain processes sound to create our perceptions of loudness\, pitch\, and timbre. \nWhile a nuclear engineer by profession\, Elmer Lewis is a lifelong concert attendee fascinated by music\, particularly as the bridge between science and the arts. He is Professor Emeritus and former Chairman of Northwestern University’s Department of Mechanical Engineering. His most recent book is Renewables or Nuclear\, Which Should Lead in Curbing Climate Change? (Springer\, 2026). \nCoffee Talk programs are free\, informal presentations on music topics by ensemble members\, staff\, and friends.
