Our guest conductors then lead the orchestra through Haydn’s renowned Symphony No. 94\, “Surprise”\, aptly named for its unexpected fortissimo chord that playfully startles the audience. This symphony is a delicate and audible feast for string lovers\, embodying Haydn’s mastery in blending humor with profound musicality. \nFollowing Haydn’s works\, the program turns to the lyrical genius of Franz Schubert\, beginning with his festive Overture to Rosamunde. Originally written as incidental music to the play Rosamunde\, Princess of Cyprus\, this captivating work showcases Schubert’s gift for unforgettable melodies in a modified sonata form\, qualities that have made it “one of Schubert’s most popular works.” \nThe evening concludes with Schubert’s delightful Symphony No. 5\, a work of youthful exuberance and classical restraint. DESCRIPTION:Join guest astronomers from UW-Madison as they present Badger Talks\, a PowerPoint presentation about astronomy and a chance to view the night skies through a high-powered telescope. Newport State Park in Ellison Bay is the best place to view this spectacular meteor shower as it is Wisconsin’s only designated International Dark Sky Park. No seating is available\, so bring a lawn chair or blanket\, flashlights\, or headlamps with a red lens (protects night vision). Meet at Lot 3\, follow path to shelter building.
