SUMMARY:The New World
DESCRIPTION:Conductor: Maestro Rune Bergmann \nDvorak: Concerto for Cello \nDvorak: Symphony No. 9 in E minor\, “From the New World” \nSterling Elliott\, cello soloist \n  \nStep into a world of passion\, power\, and musical storytelling as the Peninsula Music Festival presents The New World\, featuring Dvořák’s masterful Cello Concerto and the iconic Symphony No. 9\, “From the New World.” Under the direction of Maestro Rune Bergmann\, this captivating program blends Bohemian melodies\, African American spirituals\, and the grandeur of the American landscape\, offering a breathtaking musical experience. Performed by our exceptional orchestra\, this evening also shines a spotlight on the phenomenal young cellist Sterling Elliott\, one of classical music’s most exciting rising stars. \nThe concert begins with Dvořák’s Concerto for Cello\, a technical and emotional tour de force that showcases the cello’s full expressive range—from soaring lyricism to fiery virtuosity. Taking on this masterwork is Sterling Elliott\, a cellist of breathtaking artistry. Hailed by The Millbrook Independent as “a star cellist who has risen beyond hopeful promise to astonishing maturity\,” Elliott has already performed with the New York Philharmonic\, Boston Symphony\, Cleveland Orchestra\, and Los Angeles Philharmonic\, collaborating with legendary conductors like Yannick Nézet-Séguin. A 2021 Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient and winner of the 2019 National Sphinx Competition\, Elliott is quickly establishing himself as one of the most compelling young musicians of his generation. His 2024/2025 season includes debuts with the Atlanta Symphony\, performances at Wigmore Hall\, Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie\, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam\, and an anticipated return to Carnegie Hall. His interpretation of Dvořák’s Cello Concerto promises to be nothing short of mesmerizing. \nThe second half of the program presents Dvořák’s most famous symphony\, Symphony No. 9\, “From the New World.” Written during his time in America\, this vivid and deeply moving symphony reflects the composer’s impressions of the American landscape and spirit\, beautifully weaving together Bohemian folk influences with the rich tradition of African American spirituals. From the sweeping grandeur of the opening movement to the achingly beautiful Largo\, and culminating in the triumphant\, pulse-quickening finale\, From the New World remains one of the most beloved symphonies of all time. \nDon’t miss this extraordinary night of music\, where past and present collide in a breathtaking celebration of culture\, melody\, and artistic brilliance. Witness Sterling Elliott’s dazzling artistry and experience Dvořák’s masterpiece like never before! Secure your seats now for The New World!
