Door County, Wis. (July 30, 2024) – 100+ Women Who Care Door County (100+WWC) Giving Circle continues its philanthropic platform to provide financial support to nonprofits of Door County at its quarterly Giving Events. After presenting information regarding the good work being accomplished at these organizations, three nonprofits received awards on Monday July 22, 2024.
The total monetary award granted at the Giving Event was the highest to date at approximately $31,000 from 396 members. Door County Food Pantry Coalition was the recipient of the Main Award of $15,500 plus the opportunity to apply for a $5,000 matching grant from the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation. The Runner Up Awards of $7,750 each were given to Horseshoe Bay Farms and Salvation Army – Door County Service Extension. The Boys & Girls Club of the Bay & Lakes Region was the returning nonprofit and discussed the impact of the 2023 award.
Amy Kohnle, Executive Director, United Way of Door County and 100+WWC Member represented the Door County Food Pantry Coalition, a partnership with the United Way, the Community Foundation and nine food pantries from Maplewood to Washington Island. Ms. Kohnle remarked, “The Door County Food Pantry Coalition is extremely grateful for the support of the 100+ Women Who Care! The $15,500 award will be used directly for food and food vouchers for the pantries. Food insecurity is real in Door County: 9% of Door County residents are living at or below the federal poverty level and another 25% are living paycheck to paycheck. Of those 25%, only 6% qualify for Food Share, this is why the pantries are so important to many in our community.”
Cathy Edmundson, 100+WWC member and nominator for Door County Food Pantry Coalition, is an enthusiastic participant in 100+WWC. “These quarterly meetings never fail to energize me. I learn so much from the selected nonprofits’ concise presentations. I am so grateful for the fellowship among these kind and generous women of 100+WWC.”
Horseshoe Bay Farms Volunteer, Scott Stern was thrilled to be part of the 100+WWC event. “Thank you so much for the amazing donation to HSBF! We are excited to put those funds to work to make our guests’ experience even better. For me, preserving the past and our roots is a core belief that understanding where we come from enables us to go confidently forward. In today’s fast-paced world, there’s often a rush to modernize and develop without considering the rich history that grounds us.”
Brenda Lange is a strong advocate and volunteer for Salvation Army – Door County Service Extension. She finds 100+WWC and volunteering to be a rewarding part of her life. “My nonprofit was thrilled with the award (almost 10% of their annual budget). Everyone goes home a winner! The impact made as a group is incredible.” When asked why she volunteers, Ms. Lange shared, “I volunteer in our community because there is so much need. I feel so fortunate to be able to help. I am not a “crafter”. My friend tells me volunteering is my hobby. I think she is correct.”
Cynthia Block, 100+WWC member/nominator added, “Everyone wants their donation dollars to have the most impact, and 100+Women help us make that happen. I so appreciate our organization and my fellow members.”
At the next scheduled Giving Event On October 28, 2024, the nonprofits presenting information and organizational goals include Literacy Door County, Northern Door Children’s Center, and Peninsula School of Art.
