The 3nd Annual fm106.9 The Lodge Cherry Drop™ will return to Sister Bay this year for an evening of celebration as Door County greets a new decade! The Lodge Cherry Drop™ can be described as similar to the Times Square New Years Ball Drop – but instead of a ball, a roughly 300-pound cherry, fully donned with red lights, a stem and leaves is hoisted over 150 feet above Husby’s Food & Spirits. It is there the cherry will await the midnight countdown as the greatest New Years party on the Peninsula transpires below!
The evening’s activities begin at 10:30pm. The Lodge warms everyone up by playing the biggest party tunes of all time and broadcasts live from both Husby’s and the Sister Bay Bowl. The event is free to attend.
The Village of Sister Bay has been more than accommodating to all types of visitors to the county who have attended the event, offering a variety of family-oriented activities earlier in the night, as well as a rework show!
“From families to couples, out-of-state visitors to Door County locals,
we’re delighted to be able to welcome those of you celebrating the New Year to Sister Bay and to Door County” said Louise Howson, the Sister Bay Advancement Association (SBAA) coordinator for the event.
After being able to survey attendees to the second annual event, fm 106.9 the Lodge and the SBAA have observed the diversity of attendees in party size and number of nights stayed, and hope the event can have an impact in bringing in off-season visitors into the county and to local businesses.
In past years the event has been met with snow, freezing temperatures, and winds, but “the party must go on,” says Mike Mesic, owner of fm106.9 The Lodge. “The weather is just a part of a Wisconsin New Year’s experience!”
The Lodge Cherry Drop™ will happen regardless of weather conditions and is expected to pack the street with around 3,000 people at midnight. If you are unable to attend the event in person this year, you may view coverage of the event on WFRV Local 5 as a part of their live and local New Year’s Eve celebration to be broadcast from 10pm–12:15am.
