5 Fun Things to do in Door County This Winter

January 6, 2021 by Laurel Ciohon

Article by Door County Coffee Co.

With Winter upon us, we are in for a few months of colder temperatures, beautiful snowfalls, and lots of good coffee! People often think Door County does not have much to offer in winter – but that is not the case at all, we have beautiful sights to see and there is lots of fun to be had! Check out some of our favorite outdoor activities to do in Door County this winter!

1: Take a Winter Hike – From Peninsula State Park, to Whitefish Dunes or The Ridges Sanctuary, there are many beautiful areas to hike all over the peninsula! There are options for regular hiking, and some places even offer snowshoeing trails! Take in all the beautiful sights and sounds of the county, blanketed by the peacefulness of winter snow. Just make sure your mug is full of your favorite coffee to keep you nice and warm!

2: Catch a Winter Sunrise – While it may be cold, the most beautiful sunrises come in winter, on Lake Michigan. Well worth the extra mittens or scarf, heading out to Cave Point, with a mug of Frosted Cinnamon Buns in hand, will provide you with some of the most beautiful colors you have ever seen!

3: Shop Local – There are many shops, Door County Coffee included, that are open year-round! While this year is a little different, with limited shoppers allowed in, masks and sanitizer, these places are still open and a great option for some social distanced shopping.

4: Sledding & Ice Skating – You can find ice rinks and sledding hills dotted all along the county! Take the family out for a day of outdoor fun and enjoy! Perfect for all ages, a long day of skating or sledding is the perfect way to spend a beautiful Saturday in Door County this winter!

5: Ice Fishing – From the Bay of Green Bay, to the many lakes across the county, there is some major fun to be had while ice fishing! Another great activity for the whole family, Door County has so many kinds of fish for you to catch, and it makes for a fun meal when you get home! A long day out on the ice, with your favorite Door County Coffee to keep you warm…what could be better!

While it may be colder, there is still so much to do and there are also less visitors to the county in winter, making it the perfect destination for safe fun during this Pandemic. We hope to see you soon!
