72nd Annual Sister Bay Fall Fest

October 3, 2017 by Laurel Ciohon

Amazing food, great live music, family fun activities and spectacular Fall color come together once again to serve up a Festival like no other on the peninsula. The 72nd annual Sister Bay Fall Fest runs October 13,14 and 15, 2017 throughout the Village of Sister Bay in northern Door County Wisconsin. This year Fall Festers can indulge in the widest selection ever of street food and drink and catch great live music throughout the festival grounds. Bowlers can try throwing a strike at pumpkin bowling, and in the Arts and Crafts area, shopping and handicraft enthusiasts alike will find over 100 booths filled with beautiful, handmade creations, most made right here in Wisconsin.

Fall Fest’s 72nd year brings some firsts to the festival schedule. For the kids, there will be the Touch-A-Truck event from 12-4 on Saturday sponsored by the Sister Bay-Liberty Grove Library. Located at the Sister Bay Fire Station, kids of all ages can come to climb on, explore, learn about and get a picture with vehicles of all sizes. We’ll even have a crafts table there with materials to make your very own tractor or fire truck!

Even more entertainment and games are available for kids of all ages with inflatable games, a bungee rock wall, a goldfish game and more.  On Saturday at Village Hall, families can witness the crazy antics of Dr. Cletus Beacker, MD and the Hillbilly Science Spectacular Comedy Show!

If you feel the need for speed, then you don’t want to miss the Adult Big Wheel Rally on Sunday starting at 10:00 am at the Sister Bay Hill. The race will be in heats, with 16 teams, all sponsored by local businesses, racing against each other for title of Big Wheel Champion. Come to cheer on your favorite team or driver or just to see the fun roll down the hill.

Food and drink sales begin at 10:00 a.m. Friday and Sunday; 9:00 a.m. Saturday before Highway 42 is closed for the parade, which begins at 11:00 a.m.  If you’re 21 or older, beer and alcohol vendors will be requiring wristbands.  So Wristband Up! at one of three wristband stations throughout the festival grounds. This year’s Parade Marshall will be the 2017 Sister Bay/Liberty Grove Volunteer of the Year. The Gibraltar School District Marching Band, Green Bay Preble High School Marching Band, and the Milwaukee Scottish Pipe Band will be at their best providing lively beats for the parade floats and participants. All Door County individuals, businesses and groups are invited to enter a float into the parade or dress up in costume and entertain the crowd.  The entry judged Best in Parade will be awarded the annual Trophy. The line-up starts at 9:00 am on Maple Dr. /County ZZ and Hwy 42.

The Sister Bay Lions Club will host its annual Door County Fish Boil Friday night at the Sister Bay/Liberty Grove Fire Station, and you’ll be able to smell the maple syrup and sausages long before you get to the Northern Door Kiwanis Saturday morning Pancake Breakfast in the Village Hall.

Do you feel lucky ?? The 50/50 raffle continues again this year. Tickets are $5 each, or five for $20 and the drawing will be held on Sunday, October 15 at 2 p.m. on the corner of Hwy 42 & Mill Road. Prior to the festival, tickets can be purchased at Bhirdo’s Shell, Husby’s, and the Old Schoolhouse Information Center beginning October 2 and throughout the festival grounds.
