Sturgeon Bay, Wis. (May 11, 2026) — The Door County Historical Society (DCHS) is proud to announce the launch of a brand-new page on its website dedicated to a truly special milestone—the organization’s 100th anniversary.
Since its founding on October 1, 1926, the Door County Historical Society has been committed to preserving, sharing, and celebrating the rich history of Door County. Over the past century, DCHS has grown from a small group of passionate historians into a vibrant organization that cares for historic sites, protects collections, and brings history to life through programs, exhibits, and community engagement.
From early publications that helped shape understanding of the peninsula’s past to the stewardship of beloved sites like Heritage Village and Eagle Bluff Light Station, the Society’s accomplishments reflect generations of dedication from volunteers, members, donors, and supporters.
Now, as DCHS steps into its second century, the organization invites the public to explore all that this milestone year has to offer through its new online hub. The page features information about the Society’s history, anniversary celebrations, future plans, and ways to get involved—including the opportunity to make a gift in support of the next 100 years.
Visitors can access the page at www.doorcountyhistoricalsociety.org by clicking the 100th anniversary logo on the homepage. As the central hub for the centennial, the page will continue to grow with new content, announcements, and opportunities to participate—and now serves as the primary place to give online to the Society’s Centennial Campaign.
In conjunction with the launch of this page, DCHS has officially kicked off its Centennial Campaign, an ambitious effort to raise $100,000 to strengthen collections, preserve historic sites, and expand educational programming for generations to come.
“A century ago, a small group of citizens made a bold decision to protect Door County’s history before it was lost,” said Amy Frank, Executive Director of DCHS. “A centennial is more than a celebration—it’s a responsibility. The decisions we make today will shape how our history is preserved and shared for the next 100 years.”
The campaign invites Leadership support at multiple levels, including:
- Century Leaders ($10,000)
- Legacy Circle Members ($5,000)
- Founding Members ($1,000)
Leadership donors will receive special recognition as supporters of DCHS’s second century, including acknowledgment at the October 1, 2026 Centennial Celebration and a commemorative coin created exclusively for the anniversary.
DCHS aims to build early momentum by securing its first 25 Founding Members by May 15, with a goal of reaching all 100 by September 1.
Community members can also participate through $100 Centennial Gifts, symbolizing one year of the organization’s first century. Many supporters are choosing to give in honor or memory of loved ones, and donors at this level will receive a commemorative 100th anniversary pin.
“Every gift—whether $100 or $10,000—helps ensure that our history remains vibrant and accessible,” said Terry Myra, Centennial Committee Chair. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to invest in the next 100 years of preservation and education in Door County.”
The public is encouraged to visit the new anniversary webpage to learn more and make a gift by May 15 to help launch the campaign, or by September 1 to be recognized as part of this historic milestone.
