A Collaboration for the Holidays: Local Nonprofits Unite for “A Glimpse of Christmas Past”

December 6, 2024 by Laurel Ciohon

Sturgeon Bay, Wis. (December 6, 2024) — Step back in time this December as the Door County Historical Society’s Heritage Village comes alive with the sights, sounds, and spirit of the holiday season during A Glimpse of Christmas Past. Presented by the Door County Historical Society, this annual celebration offers more than just a festive stroll through history—it’s a chance to strengthen community ties and support local nonprofits in a truly unique way.

Discover the Stories Behind the Decorations

This year’s event shines a spotlight on the nonprofits shaping Door County. Each historic building in the Village will be lovingly decorated by a local organization, their designs inspired by their missions and the era they represent:

  • Sunshine Resources brings joy and inclusion to the Heritage Chapel.
  • Door-Tran offers a nostalgic journey in the Vignes Schoolhouse with transportation-themed charm.
  • Friends of Potawatomi State Park celebrates Door County’s natural winter beauty in the Kohl Fishhouse.
  • Midsummer’s Music shares an air of sophistication in the Warren House, paired with their love for chamber music.
  • Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church spreads warmth and generosity with the Schopf House, supporting their Backpack Buddies program.

Each visit provides an opportunity to learn about the nonprofit’s work, fostering a deeper connection to the organizations that make Door County thrive.

Cast Your Vote, Make a Difference

Admission is free, but your vote matters! Visitors can support their favorite decorations with a donation. The winning nonprofit earns bragging rights, and all contributions are shared among the participating organizations, helping them continue their impactful work in Door County.

Festivities for All Ages

The experience wouldn’t be complete without holiday treats and shopping. Stop by the Greene Store, where the Historical Society offers hot drinks, festive snacks, and gifts perfect for the season. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a supporter of local causes, or simply looking to capture the holiday spirit, there’s something for everyone.

Plan Your Visit

Mark your calendar for this one-of-a-kind event, held every Friday and Saturday in December from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Heritage Village, 2041 Michigan St, Sturgeon Bay. The twinkling lights, festive music, and historic charm promise a memorable evening for families, friends, and visitors of all ages.
