Write On, Door County hosts a book publication and holiday party, Wednesday, December 11
Juddville, Wis. (November 21, 2024) – Write On, Door County will host a book publication and holiday party on Wednesday, December 11 from 4-6 pm for local author Anne Emerson’s new picture book, A Home for Hattie. Emerson, who opened Edgewood Orchard Galleries in 1969, turned to her love of writing upon retirement, and A Home for Hattie follows the publication of her first book, Doodle Love, in 2019.
A Home for Hattie tells a story of kindness and compassion as a family adopts an 11-year-old Labradoodle needing a new home when her owners, Bud and Irene, move into assisted living and can no longer care for her. They find a wonderful family for Hattie and in the process, they become part of the family, too. The story portrays how love connects us and carries us through difficult times.
The book is illustrated in expressive watercolors by Ivy Vallely, who is completing her graduate degree at Alfred University in New York and Düsseldorf, Germany. Vallely lived in Door County in the summer of 2023 and worked at Edgewood Orchard Galleries.
Emerson is a longtime community advocate for arts in education and lifelong learning and has been involved in starting Friends of Gibraltar in 1982, the Door Community Auditorium in 1991 and Write On, Door County in 2013.
The holiday event is free and all ages are welcome. There will be a short reading starting at 4:30 pm with time for questions. Copies of the book will be available for purchase with signing by the author, with a portion of the proceeds given to support Write On’s programming for youth and elders. Holiday refreshments will be served.
A Home for Hattie can also be ordered online here.
