Sister Bay, Wis. (November 13, 2020) — Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant & Butik has announced its first-ever Scandinavian Christmas Market, a “pop-up store” scheduled for the Friday-Saturday-Sunday weekends of Nov. 20-21-22, Nov. 27-28-29, and Dec. 4-5-6, from 10 am–5 pm (Sundays, 10 am–3 pm). The Scandinavian Christmas Market will be located inside Al Johnson’s new retail building, next to Stabbur Beer Garden on Bay Shore Drive in Sister Bay.
“We’ve talked about how much fun it would be to have a Scandinavian Market during the Christmas season for years,” said Lars Johnson, co-owner. “Now that we have the new retail building next to Stabbur about to open for the 2021 season, it made sense to debut the new space with what we hope will be an exciting annual holiday event.”
The Christmas Market will feature many of the unique Scandinavian gifts and foods for which Al Johnson’s has become famous over the years, said Lars Johnson, including “tomte” figurines, straw ornaments, gift baskets, and baked goods, plus pepparkakor cookies, gingerbread houses, and Swedish Glögg, the famous Christmas drink. There will also be a big selection of “surprise” items, Johnson said, in anticipation of the upcoming formal opening of the business’s new retail space.
Concurrent to the new Christmas Market taking place over three weekends, Al Johnson’s Annual Butik Sale will start on Thursday, November 19 in the well-known retail location inside the restaurant. The Butik is closing for a short break from 11/9 – 11/18, but will reopen on 11/19 and remain open daily throughout November and December from 8 am–3 pm.
