Fish Creek, Wis. (August 16, 2022) – On Monday, August 22, at 8 p.m., renowned bassist Victor Wooten will join forces with Steve Bailey and Derico Watson (together, they’re called Bass Extremes) to present an evening of virtuosic, high-energy music on the Door Community Auditorium (DCA) Main Stage.
DCA will also host a pre-show lecture/demonstration/Q&A with Victor Wooten at 4 p.m. The session is free to ticket holders but advanced registration is required and capacity is limited. Reservations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.
Victor Wooten’s name is synonymous with the bass guitar. Now a five-time Grammy winner with a slew of acclaimed solo albums, Wooten first hit the worldwide scene in 1990 as a founding member of the super-group Béla Fleck and the Flecktones. Continuing since then to blaze his own musical trail, Wooten has also become widely known as a preeminent musical thinker; his book The Music Lesson is taught in elite schools like Stanford University and Berklee College of Music. In 2011, Rolling Stone named him one of the top ten bassists of all time.
American Songwriter has called Wooten “as much a Jedi as a jazz player. . . . Victor Wooten brings harmony wherever he goes.”
Steve Bailey is a pioneer of the six string fretless bass whose techniques are studied around the world. Bailey has played and recorded with Dizzy Gillespie, The Rippingtons, Jethro Tull, Paquito D’rivera, Larry Carlton, and Willie Nelson, to name just a few. Bass Player Magazine wrote: “Steve Bailey is to the 6 string fretless bass what Columbus is to America.” Derico Watson is an accomplished educator and clinician has performed and or recorded with artists such as Cece Winans, George Duke, Jeff Coffin, Prasanna, Tommy Sims, and Ken Reynolds just to name a few. Together, Wooten, Bailey, and Watson form Bass Extremes.
Wooten’s performance is made possible with support from presenting sponsor The Dorr, major sponsors Bill & Karen Reifsnyder, and supporting sponsor WPR.
