Fish Creek, Wis. (September 26, 2022) – Gibraltar Historical Association and Bayside Tavern are excited to announce the September 28 event at Noble Square, celebrating the alterations of the Bayside Tavern returning to its original appearance.
The celebration will be at Noble Square and includes old tunes, old cars, and images of the past. We applaud the Mac Donald’s foresight to recognize the history of their building and the curb appeal of our quaint little village. Restoring a building to blend into its surroundings is greatly appreciated. Every building has a story, and the Bayside has one that is unique and filled with stories of speculation.
Most everyone recognizes the façade that has been the Old Bayside; the mansard shingled front and vertical wood siding from the early seventies. Not anymore, the carpenters slowly peeled the siding off and revealed the past. This building was once a schoolhouse headed for demolition when it was moved down Main Street to its current location. It started as an ice cream and soda parlor, a refreshment building during its beginnings on Main Street. As the building grew, so did the business, adding a pool room in the back and was written about in the paper more than once for questionable activities. It wasn’t until June of 1934, that it received its first-Class B liquor license under the ownership of William Pelke, officially becoming Bill’s Tavern. The story continues with many good times from locals to visitors alike.
We invite you to take a break from your day-to-day activities and stroll down to Noble Square at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28. Check out some Model A’s from our local Cherryland A’s and listen to some actual 78 rpm shellac vinyl’s being played by DJ David Watkins, bringing some 1920’s jazzy luminaries to life. View images of the Bayside building through the ages and share stories and reminisce. There may even be a few surprises along the way. We invite you to be part of the Celebration of 100 Years on Main Street!
Bring a lawn chair or blanket to Noble Square on September 28, 2022, from 2-4:00 pm, along with your memories, a story to share, a memento from the past, or even a photo.
