Egg Harbor, Wis. (February 25, 2021) — Woodwalk Gallery in Egg Harbor has announced the gallery’s first juried online show, Beautiful Possibilities, which will open March 1st. Gallery co-owner Jillaine Seelfedt made the announcement and said, “We created Beautiful Possibilities to provide more online exposure to amateur and professional artists working in 2-D media.”
Thourgh its website, Woodwalk initiated a call for entries to the two-month online show in December 2021. Seefeldt noted that the show’s three prize winners and other artists will be in the opening feature exhibit this May and June. The three prize winners were from Wisconsin, Nebraska and Pennsylvania, and most items in the exhibit are for sale directly from the participating artist.
The show’s judge is Elizabeth Meissner-Gigstead, Executive director of the Miller Art Museum. ”This new online show elicits, in my mind,” said Gigstead, “a romantic, even visionary notion that embodies optimism and strong emotions. There was incredible diversity in the 1,089 submissions, both in terms of range and subject, media and interpretation of theme. My personal approach included initially digesting the work over a period of days and contemplating the whole of the exhibit in relation to its purpose and theme, followed by careful review of each submission, and ultimately narrowed down to a collection of just 40 works.
“Contemplating the whole of the exhibit,” said Gigstead, “given the sheer number of works submitted, seemed a challenge. In the end, the process provided clarity and the development of a particularly strong, compelling exhibition. Exemplifying a range of “beautiful possibilities,” the show deeply reflects a high level of craftsmanship, competency of media and creativity in approach. I hope the dialogue that is exchanged between the artist and viewer—albeit through a screen—provides a transformative experience; every work of art has a story to tell and I’m hopeful a connection can be made on some level that allows for the heart of the creator to be felt.”
The gallery is in the process of shifting its 2020 offerings to 2021 and is preparing to open both the physical gallery and online gallery by May 1st.
