Egg Harbor, Wis. (August 30, 2022) – Birch Creek presents five concert dates for its Fall Concert Series plus a fundraiser featuring an evening of jazz in Juniper Hall sponsored by the Associates Volunteers on October 8.
The world-class faculty performing artists of Birch Creek return for Saturday evening concerts that are not to be missed. On September 10, Jodie DeSalvo, Birch Creek Symphony Session faculty, piano, will perform favorites from classical repertoire, as well as contemporary pieces, on the Omega Double Keyboard Piano with Susan Wenckus, Lawrence University, and a freelance pianist in the Fox Valley. The unique double keyboard piano, built by Peter Nehlsen of Washington Island, made its Birch Creek debut in the summer of 2019 to sold out audiences. Back by popular demand, Jodie will return to perform on this rare piano for its fourth appearance at Birch Creek.
Recent Birch Creek faculty members José Encarnación, saxophone, and Dane Richeson, percussion, bring their Lawrence University Jazz Quintet to perform original jazz compositions and exciting interpretations of jazz standards on September 17. Encarnación and Richeson will be joined by fellow Lawrence University Conservatory of Music faculty members, Tim Albright on trombone, Mark Urness on bass, and Bill Carrothers on piano.
On September 24, Talk of the Town featuring Kevin Van Ess and his Dixieland Jazz Band will bring high energy and entertaining antics to Birch Creek. Talk of the Town is nationally known, performing in the Midwest, Florida and Texas. Van Ess, a highly sought-after clarinetist from Wisconsin, has performed with Pete Fountain, Bob Hope and many other sensational artists. A typical Talk of the Town performance will include renditions of New Orleans-style crowd favorites such as “Sing, Sing, Sing,” “When the Saints Go Marching In,” and “In the Mood.”
Birch Creek’s annual fundraiser sponsored by the Associates Volunteers will take place October 8 and feature a jazz filled evening with faculty performers from Big Band Jazz II Session, Jeff Campbell, bass, Rick Haydon, guitar, and Reggie Thomas, piano and vocals. A catered menu will
be provided by Alexander’s, Fish Creek. Social time opens the evening at 5:30 PM, followed by heavy hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar at 6:00 PM. The concert begins at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $85 per person and all proceeds benefit Birch Creek students.
On Saturday, December 3, Birch Creek features two holiday concerts in Juniper Hall beginning with a 2:30 PM Matinee Family Concert at which all children ages 11 and under receive free admission. A second performance in the beautifully decorated concert hall will follow at 7:00 PM. Both concerts feature Birch Creek’s Symphony Brass and Percussion & Steel Band Program Director, Dan Moore and faculty member, Peter Naughton.
