Birch Creek Announces Executive Director Mona Christensen’s Retirement After 2025 Season

September 23, 2024 by Laurel Ciohon

Egg Harbor, Wis. (September 23, 2024) – Birch Creek Music Performance Center announces the
upcoming retirement of Executive Director Mona Christensen following the organization’s 50th season
in 2025.

Since joining Birch Creek ten seasons ago, Mona Christensen has led with passion, vision, and a deep commitment to performance-based music education. Under her leadership, Birch Creek has seen significant growth in student enrollment, faculty participation, and concert attendance. Mona has expanded the organization’s programs from only the summer academy for students in percussion & steelpan, symphony, and big band jazz, to newly developed adult music programs and a Fall Concert Series. Her efforts have also extended Birch Creek’s outreach to the Door County community, while spearheading important infrastructure and technology upgrades such as modern sound and lighting systems and solar energy installation. In addition, under her leadership with support from dedicated donors, the endowment has significantly grown.

“Mona has been a transformative leader for Birch Creek,” said Steve Gomoll, Board President. “We are grateful for her dedication to nurturing young musicians and guiding the organization to new heights.” The board of trustees has begun a transition plan to ensure a smooth handover of responsibilities. The position of Executive Director will be posted immediately, with the new hire expected to start on or before March 1, 2025. This will provide ample transition time for Mona’s mentorship of the new director as they prepare for the exciting summer opportunities that lie ahead and she transitions into full retirement by September 1, 2025.

As Birch Creek prepares for this milestone year, the organization will continue to honor Mona Christensen for her decade of leadership and dedication.

Applications of interest are due on or before October 18, 2024 followed by interviews. For more information, visit www.birchcreek.org.
