Birch Creek Music Performance Center is pleased to welcome the Scott Burns Quintet on Saturday, September 30 at 7:30 pm for their Fall Concert Series. Tickets for this event will be $29 for general seating, and $34 for premium seating.
Saxophonist and Birch Creek faculty member Scott Burns will bring an all-star quintet consisting of veterans from the Chicago and international jazz scene, including fellow Birch Creek faculty member trombonist Tom Garling. The group will perform a concert of jazz standards, original compositions by Burns and Garling, and a repertoire associated with the late iconic trumpeter/bandleader and NEA Jazz Master Dizzy Gillespie, in celebration of his centennial year. Proceeds from this special concert will contribute to scholarship funds for Birch Creek Music Performance Center academy attendees for the summer of 2018.
Scott Burns, Alto Saxophone Faculty (Skokie, IL) is currently a faculty member at DePaul University, Loyola University Chicago, Colombia College Chicago, and North Park University, where his collective duties include jazz ensemble director, applied saxophone instructor, jazz combo coach, jazz history lecturer, and woodwind coordinator. He is frequently heard performing in greater Chicago’s leading jazz venues and has performed alongside several international jazz artists, including McCoy Tyner, Ahmad Jamal, Clark Terry, Ira Sullivan, David Hazeltine, Tom Harrell, Eric Alexander, and Harry Connick Jr. His latest recording, Passages (Origin Records), features his original compositions and received critical acclaim across the nation. Scott has been a faculty member with Birch Creek for five seasons.
Tom Garling, Trombone Faculty (Arlington Heights, IL) toured with Buddy Rich at the age of twenty, toured with Maynard Ferguson for six years, and more recently with Frank Sinatra Jr. He teaches at Elmhurst College, Roosevelt University, and Northern Illinois University. Garling performs with numerous jazz groups including the Chicago Jazz Orchestra, and currently plays with the Mike Smith Quintet at Andy’s Jazz Club in Chicago. Tom has been a faculty member with Birch Creek for 18 seasons.

Birch Creek Music Performance Center in Egg Harbor, WI, is a residential summer music academy for advanced young musicians. With a performance emphasis, students are taught by nationally known performers and educators during the day, and perform alongside them in concerts at night.
