Birch Creek Goes Green with New Solar Panels on Two Buildings

April 6, 2023 by Laurel Ciohon

Egg Harbor, Wis. (April 6, 2023) – Birch Creek Music Performance Center, a non-profit summer music academy, has taken a major step towards sustainability by installing new solar panels on two of its buildings. The organization’s commitment to green energy reflects its dedication to the environment and the community.

Two solar panel arrays, one on the East Campus Faculty Dorm and one on the Miller Music Center, will generate over 30% of the power needed for those two buildings. The newly installed system will significantly reduce the cost of the campus’s year-round electricity needs. Saving money on electricity bills will allow the organization to invest more in its music programs and services.

“Installing solar panels on our buildings is an important step towards our goal of becoming a more sustainable organization,” said Mona Christensen, Executive Director of Birch Creek. “Solar power will lessen Birch Creek’s use of fossil fuel-generated electric power, help us reduce our carbon footprint, and contribute to the ‘greening of Door County.’”

The installation of the new solar panels was made possible by the support of a donor whose philanthropic goals align with the organization’s efficiency enhancements. An anonymous family fund of the Greater Milwaukee Community Foundation contributed to this sustainability project. This generous donation proves the positive impact of community support on non-profit organizations.

Birch Creek is committed to sustainability and is exploring new ways to reduce its impact on the environment. The installation of the new solar panels is just one of many initiatives that the organization is undertaking to upgrade its infrastructure and technology plans.
