Egg Harbor, Wis. (October 4, 2024) – For thirteen years, the so-called “Buckets Band” has performed its “Buckets of Rain” Bob Dylan tribute shows to packed houses at Woodwalk Gallery and beyond. This month, the sextet of popular Door County musicians is turning its attention to the late songwriter John Prine’s work with a new offering, “Buckets of Prine.”
Woodwalk Gallery will present “Buckets of Prine: The Songs of John Prine” for three nights, Wednesday-Friday, October 16-18 at 7 p.m., and one matinee on Friday the 18th at 3 p.m. As of the time of this press release, the Wednesday and Friday evening shows are sold out, and tickets are very limited for the Thursday evening show.
Memphis multi-instrumentalist Eric Lewis, California multi-instrumentalist Chris Irwin, local folk crooner/guitarists Katie Dahl and Jeanne Kuhns, and bassist/percussionists Rich Higdon and Craig McClelland will all perform in this tribute to one of America’s very best songwriters.
With its pitch-perfect harmonies and varied orchestrations, this Door County supergroup has created one of the peninsula’s most popular concert traditions. After performing Dylan’s songs to full houses earlier this summer (and many summers in the past), the group decided to cover Prine’s songs given the group’s unanimous enthusiasm for his work, which The Guardian called “gruff, funny, empathetic, imaginative—he was a born storyteller.”
“We have all loved John Prine’s work for a long time,” said vocalist/guitarist Katie Dahl, “and we love playing as a band, so it just made sense to explore his songs as a group. We’re planning to cover a lot of his classics, like ‘Angel from Montgomery,’ ‘Paradise,’ and ‘Hello in There,’ but we’ll also dig into his back catalogue. There are so many incredible songs to choose from.”
Woodwalk Gallery is located at 6746 County Road G in Egg Harbor. Tickets cost $27 and are available at www.woodwalkgallery.com/events. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and shows begin at 7 p.m. Audience members are welcome to arrive early for bring-your-own picnics under the tent behind the barn. Wine, beer, soda, bubbly water, and NA cocktails will be available for purchase. Carry-in alcohol not permitted.
