Sister Bay, Wis. (October 9, 2020) – When 12-year-old Bo Johnson died from leukemia in 2012, no one could have guessed that his dying wish would help create an active and successful foundation aimed at fighting childhood cancers through donations to research programs. Since its founding 8 years ago, the Go Bo! Foundation has donated over $225,000 to these efforts.
This year, the organization made the difficult decision to cancel its annual fundraising event, the Go Bo! Foundation Bake Sale.
“We’re not going to let the pandemic stop us from carrying on Bo’s message, fighting for those affected by childhood cancers,” said organizer Annika Johnson. “We believe we can keep the ‘Bo-mentum’ going and are asking the public to instead donate to our Bucks for Bo program.”
The funds raised will be used to support the High-Risk Hematologic Malignancy Program at Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee, which is aimed at understanding pediatric leukemia biology with the goal of finding innovative ways to treat extremely intransigent cancers.
