On Saturday, September 14, at 7 p.m., crowd favorite blues musician Cathy Grier will perform in an exuberant “Blues Blowout” at Door Community Auditorium (DCA) with her band The Troublemakers. Grier’s performance—her first-ever full concert performance in Door County—is part of DCA’s fall series Blues, Roots, and American Stories.
Cathy Grier’s multi-dimensional guitar technique, gutsy vocal range, and sterling songcraft have garnered acclaim worldwide, including a recent slot in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis. Trailblazing at an early age as an MTV Basement Tapes winner, Grier has since written hit songs, created a record company, produced artists in multiple languages, toured extensively, and honed her craft as a busker in the subways of New York City. September 14’s one-of-a-kind evening of stories and song will celebrate Grier’s 40-plus years of performance experiences.
NY Blade writes raves that Cathy Grier “carefully etches stories meant to prod listeners to action through her mix of gritty rock, sexy jazz, and dusty blues songs.”
Cathy Grier’s raw, passionate performances have taken Door County by storm since she moved to Sturgeon Bay in 2016, but this performance is her first in Door County as a headliner with a full band in a concert setting. Grier will be joined at DCA by all-star backing ensemble The Troublemakers, featuring Tony Menzer on bass, Jamey Clark on drums, Jim Ohlschmidt on guitar, Larry Byrne on keyboards, and Pauli Ryan on percussion. Grier and The Troublemakers will also be joined on the 14thby special guests including Hans Christian (cello), Julia McConahay (violin), and Johnny O (harmonica).
Cathy Grier and The Troublemakers’ performance is made possible with support from major sponsor Door Artisan Cheese Company & Glacier Ledge Restaurant.
