December often feels like the world is in fact running wild. In what should be a season to slow down and appreciate what we have, too many of us hurry from one event to another, exhausting ourselves and each other. I hope you take time this month to stop and hold your loved ones close and remember that is all that matters.
Slow Down With Us
While we may be light on programming this month, we invite you to come by the center to relax and unwind. The center is decorated with soothing pine, birch, and other natural elements. The fireplace is going. Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate are available. And if you hit us on just the right day, you may be greeted by the aroma of cookies baking in the oven. Come by during our normal business hours for a bit of quiet and a respite from the world running wild.
Celebrating New Books
We are grateful to host celebrations of two new books that illustrate the importance of holding your loved ones close: Anne Emerson’s picture book, A Home for Hattie, and the debut poetry collection from Kevin Hess, On Love and Light in a World of Loss. Books are available for sale and the authors are happy to sign copies for you or someone on your holiday gift list.
Thank You
As we enter the final month of the year, all of us at Write On want to thank everyone who has helped us throughout 2024: our incredible board members, our wonderful volunteers, the amazing writers who have shared their talents with us, and everyone who has attended a workshop or class, took part in one of our many free programs, came to a reading, or enjoyed quiet walks on our trails. All of you support us in so many ways and we can’t say thank you enough. We are holding you all close this season.
Publications & Celebrations
All ages are most welcome to join the celebration of Anne Emerson’s new book, A Home for Hattie, the loving story of a search for a new home for an 11-year-old Labradoodle. Wednesday, December 11, 4 – 6 pm, with a short presentation at 4:30 pm. Refreshments will be served and a portion of book sales will be donated to support our programs for Door County’s youth and elders.
Saturday, December 14, 1 pm, celebrate the debut poetry collection from Kevin Hess, On Love and Light in a World of Loss. These poems invite readers to explore their inner strength and discover the transformative healing that comes from self-compassion.
