Celebrating Poetry of the Natural World

Door County Poets Join Madison-based Poet to Launch New Book

Juddville, Wis. (August 27, 2024) – Write On, Door County is pleased to host a publication celebration for Madison-based poet Catherine Jagoe’s latest poetry collection, Praying to the Good of Small Things. Jagoe will be joined by Door County poets Sharon Auberle and Alessandra Simmons Rolffs. The reading will take place Sunday, September 8, 1 pm, at Write On, 4210 Juddville Road, Fish Creek. The reading is free and open to the public. A light reception will follow the reading.

About the collection, award-winning poet Heather Swanson wrote, “Never steering away from the complicity of being human, [Jagoe] wields the very human power of language, deftly speaking for the wondrous more-than-human world, compelling her readers to ‘stand still and list, just listen/trying to name every song.’”

Catherine Jagoe is a British American writer and translator. Her short nonfiction has garnered a Pushcart Prize and citation in Best American Essays. Her poetry and prose has appeared in numerous national literary journals. In addition to Praying to the God of Small Things, she is the author of three other collections.

Joining Jagoe will be Door County poets Sharon Auberle and Alessandra Simmons Rolffs.

Sharon Auberle is a writer and amateur photographer from Sturgeon Bay. She served as the Door County Poet Laureate for 2017-2019 and her work has appeared in numerous publications and anthologies.

Alessandra Simmons Rolffs is a poet, editor, and gardener living on Washington Island. Her poetry and essays have been published in The Southern Review, About Place, and elsewhere. She is the executive director of Gathering Ground, a nonprofit focused on sustainable farm education, and is the mother of two young boys.
