Children First, Door Community Child Development Center Merge to become Doorway to Learning

March 13, 2025 by Laurel Ciohon

Sturgeon Bay, Wis. (March 13, 2025) – As of January 20th, 2025, Children First and Door Community Child Development Center merged to become Doorway to Learning. Doorway to Learning is providing care to 132 children ages 6 weeks – 4 years and 14 school age children at the Gordon Road center. We are looking forward to utilizing the facility on Egg Harbor Road for school-aged summer camp; the space will allow us to care for 60 children, ages 5-12 years old. Please contact us at 920-818-0877 for more information!

Doorway to Learning is a registered 501c3 and we are thankful for the support we have received thus far from the Door County Community Foundation, the Women’s Fund of Door County, United Way of Door County, as well as several local businesses and community members.

We employ 30 highly qualified, passionate early childhood educators, a full-time nutrition specialist, and four administrative staff. Our experienced and dedicated administrative team is comprised of JoAnna Raines, Administrator; Hope Herbst, Center Director; Nicky Romdenne, Assistant Director; and Kayla Lehman, Business Manager. Together our administrative team has over 70 years of experience in the early childhood education industry and look forward to ensuring childcare is accessible to our community for decades to come.

The following community members are serving as our committed Board of Directors helping to lay a solid foundation to our organization’s future: Devin Vandertie, Vicki Wilson, Sally O’Brien, Ally Bretl, Steve Kane, Marti Spittell Ziegelbauer, and Frank Maxwell.

For more information on our center or to schedule a tour, please contact our administrative team at 920-818-0877, or visit our “Doorway to Learning” Facebook page.
