Sister Bay, Wis. (February 2, 2026) – Midsummer’s Music is pleased to announce that the Classics for Kids Foundation has awarded a matching grant of $1,465 to support the Griffon String Quartet’s educational outreach with local children participating in string lessons, and that the Raibrook Foundation provided the matching funds.
The grant will be used to purchase much-needed instruments, including one three-quarter-size violin and two half-size cellos, ensuring that young students have access to quality instruments as they continue their musical journeys.
“This grant will make a meaningful difference for our students,” said Midsummer’s Music Executive Director Allyson Fleck. “Access to properly sized, quality instruments is essential for young musicians to learn comfortably and confidently. We’re grateful to the Classics for Kids Foundation for helping us make this possible.”
The Griffon String Quartet, an affiliate of Midsummer’s Music, is dedicated to sharing the joy and benefits of music through performance and education. In addition to concerts throughout northeast Wisconsin, the Quartet provides outreach programs, lessons, and workshops to inspire and nurture the next generation of musicians.
The Classics for Kids Foundation supports string education programs nationwide by providing matching grants for high-quality instruments for young players. Through its grants, the Foundation helps ensure that all children – regardless of background – can experience the joy of making music.
Midsummer’s Music extends its gratitude to the Classics for Kids Foundation and to the community members whose matching donations make this award possible. Together, they are helping to build a vibrant future for music education in Door County and beyond.
Midsummer’s Music was co-founded in 1990 by Jim and Jean Berkenstock, long-time Door County summer residents and principal orchestral players with the Lyric Opera of Chicago. What began as two concerts among friends has become one of the Midwest’s most anticipated chamber music series, bringing thousands of chamber music enthusiasts from around the globe to the magical Door County Peninsula.
