Sister Bay, Wis. (August 11, 2020) – Earlier this summer, Comet NEOWISE put on a spectacular show all across the northern hemisphere. Door County has some of the darkest skies east of the Mississippi and endless landscapes from which to observe and capture all kinds of celestial events. This comet, the brightest one to appear in our sky in over 20 years, showed up spectacularly against the stars.
Luke and Heather Frykman spent many late nights and a few early mornings photographing this brilliant comet in several locations throughout Door County. Close up images were made using our regular camera and telephoto lens mounted on a telescope tracking mount. Around a dozen tracked exposures were combined to produce a brighter, cleaner, more colorful final image of the comet and its tail.
