Community Invited to Reception for Artist Fred Perryman

September 27, 2024 by Laurel Ciohon

Sturgeon Bay, Wis. (September 27, 2024) – The community is invited to attend a reception on Friday, October 4th from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the Door County Community Foundation. The reception celebrates the Lobby Gallery Fall Exhibition featuring works by Fred Perryman. The Community Foundation is located at 222 N 3rd Avenue in Downtown Sturgeon Bay.

Fred Perryman, a vibrant artist who has called Fish Creek home since 2020, is set to be featured at the Door County Community Foundation gallery. Originally from southern Illinois, Fred’s journey has been both diverse and inspiring. After a fulfilling 36-year career as a family physician in Wisconsin Rapids, he embraced his long-time passion for art upon retirement in 2017. With a background in ink sketching, Fred has recently found his creative voice through oil pastels—a medium he describes as “spontaneous, forgiving, and richly colorful.”

Fred’s art is distinguished by its impressionistic use of color, which conveys a deep sense of inner meaning. Working with oil pastels, he embraces spontaneity and flexibility, allowing his creative process to unfold organically. By focusing on color through an impressionist lens, he creates a vivid and immersive experience for the viewer. His work has been exhibited at notable venues including the Alexander House Gallery, Hardy Gallery, and Peninsula School of Art. The accolade of a Judge’s Choice Award at the Hardy Gallery’s Call For Art and selection for the Cranberry Fest Poster are testaments to his growing recognition. Influenced by a distinguished artist and mentor in Door County, Fred compares this mentorship to receiving medical school acceptance, marking a profound turning point in his artistic journey.

His latest exhibition at the Door County Community Foundation gallery promises to be a captivating showcase of his unique artistic vision, blending color and depth in every piece.

Each season, different Door County artists will be invited to exhibit their work at the Door County Community Foundation’s Lobby Gallery. The Gallery is normally open to the public during the Community Foundation’s regular hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The Door County Community Foundation, Inc. is a collection of separate charitable funds set up by individuals, families, non-profit organizations, private foundations and businesses that are managed, invested and disbursed for the current and future good of Door County. The Community Foundation was launched in 1999, currently administers more than $55 million in assets, and distributes more than $9 million to charities every year.
