Juddville, Wis. (August 11, 2023) – Write On, Door County announces a new addition to their August line-up of programs with stand-up comedian June Melby. Characters: How to Make them Pop off the Page will be offered on Saturday, August 19, noon – 2 pm. Cost of the workshop is $40; some scholarships are available.
The workshop will address strategies for creating and describing interesting characters, based on people you know and people you invent. Applicable to writers of both fiction and nonfiction, participants will spend time trying out various techniques. Special tips will be provided to writers of memoir who fear being banned from family gatherings.
June Melby is the author of My Family and Other Hazards, a memoir about the retro 1950s miniature golf course her family ran for 30 years. It was a New York Times bestseller and winner of the Midwest Connections award. She has toured the U.S. and Europe as a stand-up comic, a performance poet, as a solo artist and with her band, “June Melby and Her Future Enemies.” She has an MFA in creative nonfiction from the University of Iowa and lives with her husband in a log cabin in the woods of Iowa.
