Sturgeon Bay, Wis. (March 28, 2022) – Crossroads at Big Creek recently received an $8,859 grant from the Wisconsin Humanities Council. These funds will help Crossroads introduce the community to our Ida Bay Preserve and share the stories of the people who have lived, labored and visited the land we now manage as part of the Crossroads preserves.
Funded as a part the WHC’s “A More Perfect Union Initiative,” Crossroads’ proposal – “Humanities Outreach at the Ida Bay Preserve” – will fund archaeological research, the creation of a Historical Trail Map and interpretive markers, outreach programs for schools and for the community, and will culminate with a Community Event tentatively scheduled for Saturday, September 17.
Crossroads at Big Creek is a learning center and nature preserve which offers education, conducts research and provides outdoor experiences to inspire environmental stewardship in learners of all ages and all backgrounds.
The Wisconsin Humanities Council supports projects that strengthen the roots of community life through educational and cultural programs that inspire civic participation and individual imagination with funds provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Information about the spring outreach programs will be posted on the Crossroads website and Facebook page. For more information, or to get involved, contact coggin@crossroadsatbigcreek.org
